The Sycamore Community Singers is a large, diverse, adult volunteer SATB community choir, with members ranging from novice to highly-trained singers. We perform a varied repertoire from both sacred and secular choral “standards,” including pop, jazz, gospel, spirituals, Broadway show tunes, and more! We just love to sing together!
SCS was founded in 2016 by Linda Gartner upon her retirement from Sycamore Community Schools after 34 years of choral directing at the Junior High School. Under her direction, SCS prepared and performed two annual concerts, sang at retirement communities, volunteered at fundraising events, and created a scholarship program for students interested in pursuing choral conducting. Members of SCS also traveled to Germany and Austria in the spring of 2018, NYC/Carnegie Hall in February 2020, and most recently to Ireland and Scotland in June 2022, performing three formal concerts and multiple impromptu mini-concerts. After the choir’s concerts in May 2023, Linda retired as director of SCS.
In August of 2023, Sycamore Community Singers enthusiastically welcomed Beth Hofferber to lead us into our next chapter. Beth recently retired from public school teaching, after more than 25 years of directing and/or accompanying all types of choirs – from 300+ multi-choir high school programs (most recently at Lakota), to church choirs, community choirs, and youth choirs in the Greater Cincinnati area. Beth is thrilled to join the warm and welcoming “choir family” of Sycamore Community Singers and looks forward to building on the already strong foundations of SCS: lifting our voices together to make beautiful music, volunteering to give back to our community, traveling near and far to share our talents, and most importantly – having fun while doing it!
Sycamore Community Singers is a tax-exempt, non-profit 501(c)3 organization.
